Recently, I had the privilege of sharing a co-inspired conversation with Ariel Eckstein, CPCC — a former senior executive at LinkedIn, now a coach and educator. We didn’t debate. We didn’t interview. We noticed. Together.
We pressed pause on the noise and explored a powerful question:
What is leadership asking of us now?
What emerged wasn’t theory — it was truth. It was the kind of insight that arises only when you’re fully present, fully connected. And it left us both with something many leaders are craving right now:
Permission to reset, reconnect — and lead differently.
The Moat Is Gone
One of Ariel’s reflections landed deeply:
“There used to be a metaphoric moat between the leader and the team.”
That moat represented separation. Authority. Distance. Even protection.
But in today’s workplace, the moat — or the illusion of it — is gone.
Leaders are now in raw proximity to their teams. There’s no space to hide behind polished messaging or performative personas.
Presence, emotional regulation, and energy are being read in real-time. And your people feel it.
This shift is at the heart of my philosophy:
You lead with your nervous system, not your knowledge.
Leadership Is No Longer Performance — It’s Regulation
It’s not what leaders say that sets the tone — it’s what they transmit, tolerate, and repeat.
Especially under pressure.
We don’t default to strategy in moments of stress — we default to state.
If we haven’t learned to regulate that state, we leak it. And teams pick it up.
Ariel captured it beautifully:
“Leadership is a sacred trust. You hold someone’s career in your hands.”
That kind of trust doesn’t require distance. It demands presence.
Co-Inspired Truths from the Conversation
Here are the insights we landed on — not as soundbites, but as shared truths:
- Trust doesn’t come from your title. It comes from connection.
- Leaders aren’t meant to have all the answers. They’re intended to create the space for better questions.
- Clarity without care is cold. Care without clarity is confusion.
- The real work now? Self-awareness, regulation, and relational depth.
- Leadership isn’t performance. It’s coherence.
The Regulated Leader: Leadership That Feels Human Again
We’re entering a new era — one where effective leaders know how to pause under pressure, reset their internal state, and connect with authenticity.
At PSG, we refer to this as The Regulated Leader.
It’s not a theory — it’s a capability we help leaders develop through:
- Neuroscience-informed state training
- Emotional messaging under pressure
- Circuit breakers to interrupt the burnout loop
- A return to human-first leadership
Because the future of leadership isn’t about bigger decks or better scripts.
It’s about the felt sense of safety and trust a leader brings into the room.
What Is Co-Inspired Leadership?
Co-inspired leadership is more than a model — it’s a mindset.
It’s a dynamic, mutual process where insight, motivation, and growth arise not from hierarchy or persuasion but from shared presence and authentic connection.
It’s how our nervous systems — our social engagement systems — naturally communicate when psychological safety is present.
Key Characteristics of Co-Inspiration:
- Mutual: Insight flows in all directions
- Relational: Grounded in trust and openness
- Emergent: Insight arises through the exchange, not before it
- Energising: Leaves everyone more aligned and purposeful
- Non-competitive: It’s not about knowing more — it’s about what we create together
As we often say at PSG:
“We grow each other, together.”
